Senator Uche Ekwunife has condemned the killing of a young and promising Agulu indigene who was allegedly shot to death by a Police officer in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Senator Ekwunife said this while reacting to the killing of a young man from Agulu, popularly known as “Nonso”, who was gruesomely murdered by a Police officer.

She described the killing of Nonso by a police officer as “one death too many” and called on the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police Anambra State and the Divisonal Police Officer in charge of Anaocha Local Government Area to ensure that all those involved in the murder of this young man are brought to justice.

“Nonso was a young man, a father and a responsible individual who went about his daily activities as a law abiding citizen. His death came as a shock to me. I feel saddened that the Nigerian Police Force has not been able to put a stop to the reckless killings of citizens by its officers”, Ekwunife said.

Senator Ekwunife extended her sincere condolences to the deceased’s family, the people of Agulu and indeed the entire people of Anaocha Local Government, and prayed that God would grant them the fortitude to bear this loss.

She called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to initiate the necessary reforms that will ensure that only decent and psychologically stable individuals are employed into the Nigerian Police Force. She also called on Inspector General of police to as a matter of urgency and public interest look into the activities of his men at various checkpoints.
