The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its planned party primary billed for this weekend in Awka to elect a standard bearer for the November 18 Anambra State governorship election.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi said the primary which was initially scheduled for August 19, 2017 had to be postponed due to logistics reason and  ‘unforeseen circumstances’ and has been fixed for August 26, 2017.

Investigations by Daily Sun indicate that the postponement may not be unconnected with the controversies that have trailed the delegate lists for the primary in addition to the failure of the aspirants to agree on a consensus candidate.

Reacting to the postponement, an aspirant, Barr Nonso Madu, described it as a welcome development, urging the National leadership of the party to perfect every arrangement to conduct a free,  air and credible primary.

According to him; “The postponement is a welcome development as it will give the aspirants more time to reach out to the delegates. We also give the party enough time to conduct a smooth free and credible primaries acceptable to all the aspirants.”

Similarly, another aspirant and former National Auditor of the party, Chief George Moghalu simply said that he has not received the full detail of the reason for the postponement, adding that he would react at the appropriate time.

“I don’t have any comment for now because I am yet to get full detail of the postponement. The reasons are still very sketchy and I am waiting for more information. I will react at the appropriate time,” Moghalu said.
